On June 22, 2014, the Grand Canal of China successfully applied for World heritage status. The Grand Canal of China, also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, was dug in the late Spring and Autumn period, the first time in the Sui Dynasty through the whole line, the Yuan Dynasty completed the second great communication. It is the only artificial canal in the world that is dug and managed by the state in order to ensure the safety of water transport, achieve the purpose of political stability and maintain unity. After more than 2,000 years of continuous development and evolution, it has communicated the political center and the economic center of the country, and played an irreplaceable role in promoting economic prosperity, cultural exchanges and scientific and technological development. The current Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has become an important waterway for north-south logistics transportation. The port terminals along the canal became important nodes of economic growth.
