Veteran Memorial War Memorial San Francisco 15 #312403090
Description
San Francisco`s Civic Center Plaza, known officially as The Joseph Alioto Plaza, in honor of the former mayor, is a small park in the heart of San Francisco, just over 4.5 acres.Under the plaza is a three story parking garage as well as Brooks Hall, an exhibition space that opened in 1958. The newest addition to the plaza is the Veterans Memorial of granite stones with fountain, in honor of those who gave their lives for our country. The stones are in an octagonal shape, inscribed with lines by the American Poet Archibald MacLeish. There are also soils from some of the battle fields from WW1, WW2 and the Viet Nam Wars under the stones. This is in the space between the War Memorial and Opera Plaza Buildings, across the street from City Hall, in the middle of the Charlotte and George Shultz Horseshoe Drive, named in honor of one the last, true Power Couples. As seen 25 March 2024.
