Sun between spires of the Canadian Vimy Ridge Memorial, France #31271056
Description
Sculpture of a grieving figure at the base of the Canadian National Memorial at Vimy Ridge, Givenchy-en-Gohelle, near Arras in France. This is the main memorial to Canadian soldiers who died on the Western Front in France and Belgium in the First World War. The monument was placed here because Vimy Ridge was finally captured by the Canadians in 1917 in a very successful and well-planned attack after repeated failures by the French and British in the previous years.
