Description
The Irish National War Memorial Gardens is an Irish war memorial in Islandbridge, Dublin, dedicated "to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914â1918", out of a total of 206,000 Irishmen who served in the British forces alone during the war.The gardens were designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, a renowned British architect who is also known for designing the Cenotaph in London. Construction of the gardens began in 1930 and was completed in 1938. The gardens are laid out in a formal style, with sunken rose gardens, herbaceous borders, and extensive tree planting.
