Pictured is a greater roadrunner at the edge of a pool at the Transitions Bird and Wildlife Photography Ranch near the City of Uvalde, Texas. It is taking a drink of water and a reflection is clearly visible in the still water of the pool. The binomial name is Geococcyx californianus. It is a ground dwelling bird and is often seen dashing across plains or deserts during daylight hours. It feeds on insects, spiders, scorpions, lizards, snakes and small rodents.
