Alpinia oxyphylla Miq. is a perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family. The plant height can reach 3 meters Stems clustered The rhizome is short, the leaves are lanceolate, and the inflorescence is fully enclosed in a cap shaped bract at the bud. When in flower, the entire inflorescence falls off, and the inflorescence axis is covered with extremely short pubescence Calyx tubular, corolla white, outer layer sparsely pilose The lips are obovate, pink white with red veins. The capsule is spherical when fresh and spindle shaped when dry. The seeds are irregularly flattened and round, covered with a pale yellow aril. The fruit is oval shaped, slightly pointed at both ends, with a brown or grayish brown surface and longitudinal uneven protrusions. The fruit skin is thin and tough, tightly adhering to the seed cluster. The seed cluster is divided into 3 lobes by a septum, with 6-11 seeds per lobe. The seeds are irregularly flattened, slightly blunt edged, with a diameter of about 3mm. The surface is grayish brown or grayish yellow, and the outer layer is covered with a light brown membranous aril. The flowering and fruiting period is from March to September.
