Description

The Kotilingeshwar Mahadev Temple built by King Mahindra Malla, dates from 1562 and is located on the north-west of the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, Kathmandu. It is believed to be one of the earliest surviving sikhara-style temples in the Kathmandu valley. The temple's central image is a four-faced statue of Shiva in the form of a chaturmukha linga. Over the tops of each opening are toranas depicting the winged god Garuda grasping and clamping down on nagas.
