Pink granite historic marker for Fort Inge and Camp Dix CSA on the lawn of the Uvalde County Courthouse. #314927375
Description

Pictured is a 1963 pink granite monument-style historic marker for Fort Inge and Camp Dix CSA, separate forts with a common mission. The marker is on the lawn of the Uvalde County Courthouse. Troops from these posts guarded against Indian raids, bandits from Mexico, and marauders. Although Uvalde voted against secession, a number of men joined the Confederate army. Often without food, clothing, horses, ammunition, the Confederate and Texas State troops, backed by citizen's posses brought a measure of protection to this frontier region. It is a memorial to Texans who served the Confederacy.
