Description

Tiryns was an ancient city of Argolis, Greece, located in the south-eastern sector of the Argo plain. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.Only a few archaeological remains remain of the city: the walls and the ruins of the Royal Palace, discovered by Heinrich Schliemann and Christos Tsountas in 1884-1885, although Fauvel's first drawings date back to 1780, while the first excavations were carried out in 1831 to work by Thiersh. The city walls were rebuilt, expanded three times and the warehouses were increased and, thanks to two underground tunnels, there was no shortage of water supply for the city. A necropolis of chamber tombs enriched with ceramic grave goods was also brought to light.
