South Park San Francisco 6 #316991785
Description
San Francisco's South Park was developed by English immigrant George Gordon, born George Cummings, who first landed in New York, then left with his wife and young daughter for San Francisco on hearing news of the Gold Rush. After first making money in the iron forgery business and then sugar refinery, both in San Francisco, Gordon started buying land in the South of Market area in 1852, to build stately homes around a central oval shaped park like in his native London. As the city continued to develop, it was easier for the less desirables to come to this area, and with the opening of the first cable car up Nob Hill in 1873, the area fell into disrepair. There has been a steady turn around and improvement since the 1990's Dot Com Boom, which has continued to this day, with all new lawns and child, and adult, play areas. As seen 30 April 2024
