Closeup of modern lobster trap entrance #317199431
Description
Invented in 1808 by Ebenezer Thorndike of Massachusetts the early lobster traps, also called lobster pots were made of wood and rope. Maine lobster is the industry term for the North Atlantic Lobster (Homarus americanus) and to distinguish between the spiny lobster and other lobster species. Lobster populations continue to shift north and east due to warming waters in the Gulf of Maine and lobster populations are migrating into Canadian waters.
