Blooming Rabbitbrush at Mono Lake, California #317524267
Description
Rabbitbrush thrives near the shore of Mono Lake because it tolerates salty alkaline soil. Small leaves minimize evaporation and light green stalks reflect sunlight, both of which are water conservation measures.Though the brush loses its leaves in winter, the stems stay green all year providing an important food for rabbits. Rabbitbrush produces brilliant yellow blossoms in August and September. The photo was taken in September.
