Paper birch trees and their peeling bark have many uses #318264044
Description
The Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera) tree gets its name from distinctive bark that peels off in paper-like layers. Also known as White Birch, Silver Birch, and Canoe Birch, the bark and branches of young trees are dark reddish-brown, while mature trees have white bark. This tree sheds as it grows and to rid itself of pests and lichen. Many indigenous groups (i.e., Wabanaki) use birchbark for making canoes, containers, and housing structures.
