Description
Tigellio's Villa (Roman) Cagliari, Sardinia Tigellius' Villa is part of a Roman settlement that the city has preserved. The ruins of thearistocratic Roman villa are in the historic district of Stampace. Tradition is that it was owned by Latin poet Tigellius. In reality it was part of a group of houses that together made up a single quarter including the 'House of the Tablinum' and the 'House of the Stucchi'. The first takes its hame from the fragments of fresco that decorated the walls of the tablinum, the room in which receptions and banquets were held. The second house is named for the decorations that adorned it. The remains of two columns stand in front of the two houses, typical of the hallways of Roman houses. Tigellius's Villa is one of the few remains of Roman habitations in the area of Cagliari and is one of the most important archaeological sites in Sardinia
