Cerebellar cortex. Purkinje cells are some of the largest neurons in the human brain. They are located within the Purkinje layer in the cerebellar cortex. The micrograph shows the large Golgi apparatus of these cells stained with the Cajal's formol-uranium silver method. The granular layer shows a stippled appearance due to staining of the small Golgi apparatus in the cerebellar granule cells
