Calvary Presbyterian Church San Francisco 4 #319983607
Description
The Calvary Presbyterian Church of San Francisco was originally founded in 1854 and their first Church, downtown on Bush Street opened and was dedicated in 1855. When the area became too commercial, they moved, then moved a second time, for the same reason. Although the first service for this Fillmore Street building was held here on Thanksgiving Day 1902, its dedication was not until February 1904. Then came the Earthquake and Fire of 1906 which left so much of the city in ruins that no only did Temple Emanuel, Old First Presbyterian and St. Lukes Episcopal Church all have to hold their services here because their respective synagogue and churches all get too destroyed, so did the Superior Court of California, for the same reason. This Edwardian and Greek Revival building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. As seen 24 May 2024.
