1. Koterka is a nature reserve within the town of Tokary. In 1945, Tokary was divided by the border into Polish and Belarusian parts. The parish church remained in the Belarusian part, and on the Polish side, just across the border, there was its branch, the Church of the Icon of Our Lady of All Sorrowful Joy. 2. Tokary was an Orthodox village and in the 17th century it became a Uniate village. In 1839, they became an Orthodox village again. In 1852, Eufrozyna Iwaszczuk went to the Koterka nature reserve to collect sorrel. She later claimed that the Virgin Mary appeared to her. 3. As with every miracle, a special commission always meets and decides on its authenticity. In this case, the commission did not recognize the miracle. And again, as with every miracle, the local people knew their own thing and made pilgrimages here from all over. Of course, it turned out that there is a miraculous spring here and the water from it cures all diseases. 4. The Orthodox Church, which did not recognize the miracle, did not allow the construction of a church for many years.
