The centrosome consists of two main components: a pair of cylindrical structures called centrioles and the pericentriolar material (PCM) that surrounds them. Each centriole is composed of nine sets of triplet microtubules arranged in a cylindrical structure. The PCM contains proteins that are involved in microtubule nucleation and organization.
