Dr. Sun Yat-sen was born in China during a period of much upheaval. Although the exact date is not known, it is generally recognized as 1866, and even his name has changed by location and time. He does have a real medical degree, one of only two students of the first class of twelve students from the first class from what became the University of Hong Kong. What he is most recognized for is being one of the founding members and first president of modern China, a post he held for only six weeks. The Italian American sculptor Benjamino Burfano, who met Sun many times and was a great admirer of him did this peaceful memorial of him. The location of this statue in St Marys Square is where Sun is known to have spoken often to the local Chinese community. As seen 5 June 2024.
