Description
The oldest Chinese temple, or joss house as Chinese call them, in San Francisco and possibly all of America, is the Taoist Tin How Temple in Chinatown. Founded in 1852 or 53 by one of the first Chinese to come to San Francisco, the original building was destroyed by the 1906 Earthquake and fire, but not before many of the most important items inside were saved and are still used in this new building. The temple is dedicated to the Chinese Sea Goddess Mazu who is known as Tin How. As seen 5 June 2024.
