Skeletal muscle tissue #321364541
Description
Skeletal muscle, also known as voluntary muscle, is one of three major muscle types, along with smooth and cardiac muscle. Skeletal muscle is attached to bones by tendons and is responsible for voluntary movements of the body, such as walking, running, and lifting objects. It is composed of long, cylindrical fibers that are multinucleated, meaning they have multiple nuclei. These fibers contain myofibrils, which are the contractile units of muscle cells and consist of repeating units called sarcomeres.
