Historic Bemis Bag Building Northeast Waterfront District San Francisco 4 #321479933
Description
In the period up until WW2 almost everywhere in the world, when people needed household commodities like coffee beans or nails, those commodities were in some kind of cotton bag, with the Bemis Manufacturing Company one of the worlds leaders in the manufacture of these bags. This building from 1906, at 1088 Sansome Street in San Francisco, was originally the home of the Historic Bemis Bag Building, where many of those bags were manufactured and shipped from. Although today it is offices, there has been a fight at City Hall with a developer wanting to either turn this current three story building into a new, seventeen story, or tear it down completely and still build an all new seventeen story building of apartments. As seen 5 June 2024.
