Any great disaster, natural or man made, will have many great leaders who did not return. During the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906 one of those leaders was Fire Chief Dennis T. Sullivan. One of the things Sullivan had the foresight to see the need for, in 1903, was a back up water supply, now called the Fire Department Auxiliary Water Supply System, and is still the backbone of the cities fire department to this day.
