Pictured is a martial eagle, binomial name Polemaetus bellicosus, perched on a lifeless treetop with red meat clutched in the talons of its right leg in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. With a wingspan of six to seven feet, the martial eagle is one of the world's most powerful avian predators. Due to both its underside spotting and ferocious efficiency as a predator it is sometimes nicknamed the leopard of the air. It is an apex predator, at the top of the avian food chain in its environment. It varies its prey selection between mammals, birds and reptiles.
