Description
Pictured is a large herd of African bush elephants drinking from the edge of the Chobe River in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. Elephants drink around eleven gallons of water a day and the herd visits this beach often. Elephants are herbivorous and will eat as much as six-hundred sixty pounds of leaves, twigs, fruit, bark, grass and roots a day. The binomial name is Loxodonta africana. The elephant herd was photographed from the Chobe River on a safari boat from the historic Chobe Game Lodge.
