Description
Pictured are three African bush elephants drinking from the edge of the Chobe River and one leaving for the bush in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. The little calf is playing while the adults drink. Elephants drink around eleven gallons of water a day and the herd visits this beach often. Elephants are herbivorous and will eat as much as six-hundred sixty pounds of leaves, twigs, fruit, bark, grass and roots a day. The binomial name is Loxodonta africana. The elephants were photographed from the Chobe River on a safari boat from the historic Chobe Game Lodge.
