Pictured is an African bush elephant and her calf walking on the beach at he edge of the Chobe River in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. The elephants are about to drink in the river. Elephants drink around eleven gallons of water a day and the herd visits this beach often. Elephants are herbivorous and will eat as much as 660 pounds of leaves, twigs, fruit, bark, grass and roots a day. The binomial name is Loxodonta africana. The elephants were photographed from the Chobe River on a safari boat from the historic Chobe Game Lodge.
