Pictured are two Cape Buffalo in the dense bush in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. The Cape Buffalo is a subspecies of the African buffalo, binomial name Syncerus caffer. In Botswana the average weight of an adult was estimated at 1,391 pounds. When attached by predators, buffalos engage in mobbing behavior and stick close together. A buffalo her responds to the distress call of a threatened member and tries to rescue it, whether the member is an adult or a calf. They have been recorded killing lions and chasing lions up trees and keeping them there for two hours, after the lions have killed a member of their group.
