Close Textures and Crystals of a Septarian Stone #322936476
Description
Septarian is a semi-precious gemstone and rock that is known for its unique patterns of cracks filled with minerals. The cracks, called septaria, can be any length and create divisions throughout the stone. The minerals that fill the cracks, such as calcite, aragonite, and limestone, create striking patterns that are never repeated. Septarian nodules can form in unusual shapes, such as pyramids, spheres, and other interesting shapes, and can measure anywhere between an inch to a foot across.Septarian nodules are also known as dragon's egg geodes, beetle stones, and turtle stones. They are found along the Gulf of Mexico, all the way inland to Southern Utah, and were formed 50-70 million years ago.
