Description
Pictured is a double-crested cormorant perched on a lifeless log at the edge of he Chobe River in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. The binomial name is Nannopterum auritum. It mainly eats fish and hunts by swimming and diving. Its feathers, like all cormorants, are not waterproof, and it must dry them out after spending time in the water. The bird was photographed from the Chobe River on a safari boat from the historic Chobe Game Lodge.
