Pictured is a closeup of a lion in the bush in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. The male lion's mane is the most recognizable feature of the species. Lions spend much of their time resting. They are inactive for about twenty hours per day and usually hunt at dawn. The lion is a generalist hypercarnivore and is considered to be both an apex and keystone predator due to its wide prey spectrum. Its prey consists mainly of ungulates, particularly blue wildebeest, plains zebra, African buffalo, common warthog, gemsbok and giraffe. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp. The binomial name is Panthero leo.
