Pictured is a male impala standing in an open field in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. The glossy coat is reddish brown on the back, tan on the flanks, and white on the underbelly. The impala is an important prey species for Africa's large carnivores. To escape it can jump up to 10 feet high and cover distances in the air up to 33 feet. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp. The binomial name is Aepyceros melampus.
