Description
Pictured is a Common warthog family ignoring a nearby African wild dog as they feed in an open field at the edge of the bush in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. The wild dog is also known as the painted dog or Cape hunting dog. The species is a specialized diurnal hunter of terrestrial ungulates, which it captures by using its stamina and cooperative hunting to exhaust them. The common warthog will use their powerful tusks to ward off attackers, and they may also use their sharp teeth and strong jaws for defense. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp. The binomial name of the African wild dog is Lycaon pictus and the common warthog Phacochoerus africanus.
