Description
Pictured is a male common ostrich standing in a savannah in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. Males have a distinctive black plumage and females a more subdued light brown plumage. They are the heaviest and largest living birds and are flightless. With their ability to run at forty-three miles per hour, they are also the fastest birds on land. The binomial name is Struthio camelus. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle at the Atzaro Okavango Camp.
