Pictured is a western cattle egret standing on a dirt road in an open field in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. The egret is standing on its right leg and the left appears to have been amputated in the past at the midportion. The cattle egret feeds on a wide range of prey, particularly insects, especially grasshoppers, crickets, flies , beetles, and moths, as well as spiders, frogs, fish, crayfish, small snakes, lizards and earthworms. The cattle egret is usually found with cattle and other large grazing and browsing animals, and catches small creatures disturbed by the mammals. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp. The binomial name is Bubulcus ibis.
