Description
Pictured is a double-banded sandgrouse foraging on the ground in an open field in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. The sandgrouse is a predominately ground dwelling bird but it can fly if needed. The birds are monogamous and their diet consists largely of seeds, including acacia, red pea, and hairy thorn-apple. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp. The binomial name is Pterocles bicinctus.
