Pictured is a female common ostrich standing in the grass in the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. The Cape if Good Hope is a section of Table Mountain National Park which covers the whole of the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula, taking in around twenty percent of the total area of the peninsula. The flightless ostrich is the heaviest and largest living bird. It is also the fastest bird on land with a top speed of forty-three miles per hour. The binomial name is Struthio camelus. The male ostrich has distinctive black plummage while the female has muted greyish-brown plummage.
