Blue winged pitta. Viet Nam Blue winged pitta is small species in Pittidae family (about 19 cm). It is a colourful bird with a black head and buff supercilium, a white throat, light blue upper-parts, blue wings, buff underparts and a reddish vent area. In flight, it has very large white patch on primaries. Both sexes are identical.They are found in subtropical and tropical lowland moist forests in many countries such as Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The blue-winged bobtail possesses a plump chest, a strong black beak, quite long legs and a short tail. This species of bird breeds at different times, often building a large spherical nest right under the ground with a variety of materials including twigs, roots, grass, leaves and moss. Female birds usually lay 4-6 eggs each time. The eggs are white or cream with many purple spots. Before hatching into chicks, the eggs are incubated by both father and mother birds for 15-17 days.
