Description
Pictured is a closeup of the head of a blesbok standing in the Cape of Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park on the Cape Peninsula in South Africa. The Cape of Good Hope section is an integral part of the Cape Floristic Kingdom, the smallest but richest of the world's six floral kingdoms. The section covers around 20% of the southern end of the Cape Peninsula. The blesbok, trinomial name Damaliscus pygargus phillipsi, is endemic to southern Africa and is found in large numbers in all national parks. It has a distinctive white face and forehead. Physically, rams and ewes are remarkably similar. Both sexes carry horns, ringed almost to the tip.
