Title
The historic town hall of Bocholt, NRW, Germany #323533079
Description
The historic town hall is located in the center of the city of Bocholt, where the shopping streets of the pedestrian zone converge. The rectangular market square is dominated by the town hall. It stands across the market square, so that the eaves side acts as a display facade, not the gable side as in Münster, for example. Together with St. George's Church, which is behind the town hall when viewed from the market square, it forms the center of the city. The town hall is built in the Dutch Renaissance style, there is "no blurring of boundaries either on the Gothic or the Baroque side".The facade is symmetrically designed and divided vertically into eight axes, horizontally into three floors that become lower towards the top. The structure is achieved by changing the building materials (red brick for the wall surfaces, Baumberg sandstone for decorative elements) and by using decorative elements such as pilasters and window reveals.
