Gemen Castle is located in the Münsterland parkland in the former marshland of the Bocholter Aa. Although the name suggests otherwise, the complex is now a castle. Its former castle freedom gave the current Borken district of Gemen in North Rhine-Westphalia its name.The castle was created from the gradual conversion of a more than 900-year-old moated castle that was built by the noblemen of Gemen, one of the most influential Westphalian noble families of its time.
