The Walhalla monument is a magnificent classicist building, which was built in the years 1830-1842 by King Louis I of Bavaria according to the plans of the architect Leo von Klenz as a monument to important personalities of the "German language" inspired by the heavenly Valhalla from Viking myths, the hall of which warriors longed to enter after death. It stands near the village of Donaustauf above the river Danube, about 10 km east of Regensburg.
