Ancient French cathedral herb garden #32408931
Description
A photograph showing the beautiful design of the antique cloister gardens at the famous landmark of Cahors : Cathédrale Saint-Ãâ°tienne de Cahors - Cathedral of St Etienne. The plant and flower beds are bordered with woven chestnut twigs and branches to form a rustic pattern. Medicinal herbs and plants are also planted in the gardens. This garden is classified as one of the famous Secret Gardens of old heritage Cahors city. The church was built by bishop Gerard de Cardaillac in the 11th century, over a church erected in the 7th century by St. Didier of Cahors. It was consecrated by Pope Calixtus II on September 10, 1119, and completed around 1135. The Roman Catholic church, located in the citys centre, has the sturdy appearance of a fortified edifice: at the time, the local bishops were in fact also powerful feudal lords in their role as counts and barons of Cahors.
