Description
Ketapang, (Terminalia catappa L., derived from its Malay name Ketapang) - a tropical pagoda-shaped tree with upright, symmetrical crown, tiered horizontal branches is native to Asia, Australia, the Pacific, Madagascar and Seychelles. The tree can grow up to 35 meters. English names include Indian Almond, Malabar Almond, Sea almond. Image highlights the beautiful natural pattern formed by its large, spiral, stalked dark green (above) and yellowish green (below) leaves, view from forest floor. Each leaf is reverse-egg-shaped, 8â38 cm long by 5â19 cm wide, with 6â12 pairs of veins arising from the main vein of the leaf, and a pair of glands at the base of the leaf. The leaves are clustered at the end of the twigs. Location: Putrajaya Botanical Garden, Malaysia.
