Description

Yellow oleander (Cascabela thevetia), belonging to the family Apocynaceae, is an evergreen tropical shrub or small tree. This poisonous plant is cultivated widely as an ornamental plant. Relative of Nerium oleander, it is also called lucky nut in the West Indies. Leaves are willow-like, linear-lanceolate, and glossy green, covered in waxy coating to reduce water loss (typical of oleanders). Flowers are long funnel-shaped. Colours include yellow, less commonly apricot, sometimes white. Fruit is deep red-black in color when ripe encasing a large seed that bears some resemblance to a 'Chinese lucky nut. In India it is called Kaneir or Kaner in Hindi language.
