Helix pomatia, commonly known as the Roman Snail or Burgundy Snail, is a large terrestrial gastropod in the family Helicidae. Characterized by its substantial, glossy shell with a creamy to light brown color and distinct spiral ridges, this species can grow up to 5 cm in diameter. Native to Europe, the Roman Snail thrives in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, meadows, and gardens, often in areas with ample moisture. It is a hermaphrodite, possessing both male and female reproductive organs, and feeds primarily on plant material. The Roman Snail is also known for its slow movement and the mucous trail it leaves behind.
