Interior of the Basiica of Saint Francis in Assisi, Central Italy #327698353
Description
Assisi is a town of Italy in the Province of Perugia in the Umbria region, on the western flank of Monte Subasio. It is the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Order of Friars Minor in that town in 1208, and of St. Clare of Assisi. UNESCO collectively designated the Franciscan structures of Assisi as a World Heritage Site in 2000. In addition to the religious places where Giotto and Simone Martini left their masterpieces, Assisi has a beautiful fortress, a rich Civic Art Gallery, an extraordinary Temple of Minerva and a scenic Piazza del Comune.
