Description
Christiansborg Palace is a palace and government building located on the islet of Slotsholmen in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the seat of the Folketing (Danish Parliament), the office of the Danish Prime Minister and the Danish Supreme Court. In addition, various parts of the palace are used by the Danish monarchy, including the Royal reception rooms, the palace chapel and the royal stables. The palace is the home of Denmark's three supreme powers: the executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. It is the only building in the world that houses all three branches of government in a country. For this reason, the name Christiansborg is also frequently used as a metonym for the Danish political system and is colloquially called Rigsborgen ("the castle of the kingdom") or simply Borgen ("the castle").
