The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in Ci 'en Temple in the south of Xi 'an City. It was originally named Ci 'en Temple Pagoda, but it was renamed Big Wild Goose Pagoda because of its huge body and the small wild Goose Pagoda in Jianfu Temple. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is one of the landmark buildings of the Tang Dynasty, which was originally built in the third year of Yonghui of the Tang Dynasty (652 AD) to store Buddhist sutras brought back from India by Xuanzang.
