Daylily flowers in the garden #329738563
Description

A daylily, Lily of the Day or ditch Lily is a flowering plant in the genus Hemerocallis, a member of the Asphodel family, subfamily Hemerocallidoideae, native to Asia. Despite the common name, it is not actually a lily, and it does not grow specifically in ditches. Horticulturists and gardeners have long bred hemerocallis species because of their attractive flowers a few select species of the genus have edible petals, while some are extremely toxic. Thousands of varieties have been registered by the American Daylily Society, the only internationally recognized registrant in accordance with the International Code of Nomenclature of Cultivated Plants (ICNCP). The plants are perennial, bulbous plants whose common name hints at their flowering, which usually lasts about a day.
